Restorative dentistry refers to treatments that restore and repair the damage, decay, and disease inside your mouth. You may already know that you are in need of a restorative treatment, because you are experiencing pain in your mouth or jaw. Or we may identify an issue during your examination that is not yet causing you pain.
Often there will be multiple treatment options that Dr. Sype will discuss with you in detail so you can make a decision that best reflects your current concerns, goals, financial situation, and preferences. It is important to us at Plaza 125 Dental that we are a collaborative partner to you in your healthcare journey. Therefore, we always take the time to talk about the different treatment options and the long-term prognosis of each option. At the end of the day, it is your body and your choice.
The following are some of the restorative dentistry treatments that we offer:
Fillings are a good solution when a tooth has been damaged by decay; the tooth can be saved by removing the decay and putting a filling material in the cavity. This restores the tooth and prevents further decay. Fillings can also be used to repair cracked and broken teeth. We offer fillings made from a variety of materials, including composite resin and amalgam.
Crowns and Bridges are used when your teeth are damaged beyond what a simple filling could fix. Crowns and bridges can replace larger amounts of tooth structure and missing teeth. They are fixed prosthetic devices (meaning they can only be removed by a dentist), but they can look and feel similar to natural teeth. They are both restorative and preventative, in that they restore damaged teeth and also prevent teeth from fracturing further. Additionally, they can be cosmetic in nature and improve the aesthetics of your smile.
Implant restoration is needed when there is a tooth (or multiple teeth) missing in your mouth. If you have an existing implant in need of restoration, Dr. Sype and his team can perform those restorations. If you need to have a new implant placed, we can refer you to one of our trusted oral surgeons.
Extractions are sometimes needed when a tooth is damaged or decayed so badly that it can’t be saved. When this is the case, we will talk with you about all of your options – alternative treatments as well as secondary treatments that can be paired with the extraction. It’s perfectly normal to feel nervous about having a tooth extracted, but Dr. Sype will make sure that you feel confident and informed before you make a final decision. The day of the procedure, it is a top priority of ours to make sure that you are comfortable the entire time.
We work with a trusted referral network of doctors and providers. If there is something that you are in need of that we don’t offer here at our office –such as root canal therapy – we will provide you with trusted options to consider.
